HISTORY

History, innovation and creativity
KOPELCO was founded in the 50s by Felipe Kopelowicz, a Belarusian immigrant who arrived to Argentina full of ideas that lead him to develop and patent a machine to cut rubber sheets. Over the years, this machine would become the milestone of this family business that now has over 60 years' experience.

Latex spinning
On its way to growth and continuous improvement, Alberto Kopelowicz, Felipe’s son, invested his entire savings in a trip to Brazil in order to improve his knowledge of technology to manufacture latex spinning. Upon his return to Argentina, he designed the first and only machine in the country to manufacture the product locally, initiating the company's path into the textile industry, specifically elastics and stockings.

Condoms
By 1986, the knowledge he had acquired to manufacture latex spinning and the desire to develop new businesses led Alberto to venture into the world of condoms.
True to his entrepreneur style, he put together a team of chemists to develop the formula, while assembling his own machine to manufacture them, coordinating a workshop with specialized engineers. By 1989, Tulipán and Gentleman brands were born.
Tulipán became famous by settling in the market as a young and innovating brand, combining safety with pleasure and fun.
While only one variety of condoms was initially manufactured, Tulipán currently includes the best products worldwide, with imports from Japan, Germany and the United States. It has 40% of Argentina's market share, besides exporting to other countries within Latin America and being one of the Government's main suppliers for STDs (Sexual Transmitted Diseases) prevention campaigns.
KOPELCO has its own laboratories for cosmetics and a lab approved by the Ministry of Health to perform physical, chemical and microbiological analyses of condoms, as well as product quality controls for other companies.

Elastic ribbons & lace
Always betting on KOPELCO's growth, Alberto began thinking about manufacturing new products with higher added value than latex spinning. Thus, in 1993, he started manufacturing elastic ribbons and lace for fine corsetry.
Alberto started with only four textile machines, and KOPELCO currently owns over 300 and a big dry cleaner, making of it the most important factory in Argentina.
